3 days when I biked from Eureka to Mendocino
This episode is about the 3 days when I biked from Eureka to Mendocino.
Something completely unexpected happened on the way.
Heading to a camping ground again
I got out of the hostel in Eureka and begun to head south again.
The weather got much better since I got into California.
It was very different from Oregon.
Biking under the blue sky made me happy.
I arrived at the camping ground of Myers Flat around 5pm.
I set up a tent as always and prepare for dinner.
I’d spent about 2 weeks on the road and I learned how to cook rice with a gas burner.
Rice and a noodle.
A diet high in carbohydrates.
Lost in the middle of nowhere
The next day, I left the camping ground around noon.
On the way, I took a break in Garberville.
I arrived at Legget around 4pm.
I knew that there was no camping grounds in Legget.
After consideration, I decided to go to the camping ground in the west coast even though it would be sunset soon.
Google Map says that it takes an hour and a half to bike to the camping ground.
However, the road on the way was so cranky and steep that I needed to push my bike.
It became dark before I get to the destination.
When I almost gave up biking on the way, I was in the middle of nowhere.
There was a ruined house in the forest.
The sound of a flowing river in the dark scared me.
I had no choice but to spend a night here because I was too tired and biking in the dark is dangerous.
When I was disappointed, a car went past and pulled up in front of me.
I had a lucky escape
A women with three dogs came out of the car.
Hey! Are you okay? What’s going on ?
I was going to the next town but It’s already dark.
It’s pretty far from here. I can give you a ride.
Are you sure? Thank you.
Lady luck smiled.
I couldn’t believed what was going on but I was super happy.
We tied up my bike on the roof of her car and I got in her car.
By the miraculous encounter, this journey became special.
To be continued.
